proof of concept
A working model for presence in the hood.

proof
Ubuntu Fine Art is a 1300 sq/ft fine art photography gallery I built with intention, rooted in the ethic of Ubuntu: shared humanity, care, and reciprocity.
I opened this space in Germantown as a proof of concept. Could a high-end fine art gallery exist in the hood without compromise? Could presence alone shift how art is accessed and experienced?
The proof lives in the encounters:
A woman from Uganda was moved to tears by a photo from Kenya.
A delivery driver drawing strength from a Montana landscape.
A child discovering hidden music in the same Montana landscape.
Each visitor brings something, leaves with something, and adds to the story.
The gallery is designed to meet people where they are: neighbors, collectors, renters, and emerging artists. We slow down. We talk. We look. This space has taught me that presentation matters, and so does access. Ubuntu Fine Art makes both possible.
This is my practice and gift of intellectual exchange to my community. To explore, create, listen, and ask better questions. Each encounter shapes the next, and through presence, the art lives with the community.
concept
Ubuntu Fine Art turns presence into practice, where Cultural Exchange is the foundation. Every offering centers care, attention, and access.
Collect the Work
My large-format works invite slow looking and long conversation. They come from global travels and walks through Germantown. Each piece is crafted with archival materials and built to last. I work directly with collectors to frame and place work that fits their space and spirit. Over 100 collectors have brought the work home, including many first-time collectors who started here.
Host a Gathering
The gallery is suited for intimate events: dinners, panels, story tours, music, and more. The space holds energy without excess. If you want to shape a gathering, let’s talk.
Run Your Own Gallery
This rental residency program supports artists ready to exhibit on their terms. You bring the work, I offer the standards, space, and guidance. The gallery takes no commissions and we build the show together. From scheduling, installation, and de-installation, to visitor experience and care. You learn the full process from the inside.
Mentorship and Consulting
Artists and cultural workers often ask about craft, business, or creative sustainability. I offer one-on-one sessions and small group workshops rooted in lived experience.
Visit the Gallery
No appointment needed. Come during posted hours, explore at your pace, and ask what you need. For quiet visits or group time, reach out to schedule. Every visit is a chance to connect and carry something meaningful with you.

I held my 35th birthday party here and it was the best. I’ve known Steve for years so to be able to celebrate in his beautiful and black owned space was a no brainer. Steve was accommodating and helpful. I had caterers come set up, a decorator, and it completely turned the space into a place to celebrate and still make it my own. I wanted something unique, “artsy” with great lighting and wanted to support black vendors as much as possible. MANY selfies were taken by my guests who all enjoyed the space and art. Thanks for having this space Steve. I look forward to having my 40th here!

Ubuntu Art Gallery is a true gem in Uptown Philadelphia and a vital space for Black art and culture in the city. I've visited Ubuntu for multiple showcases. I also held my 30th birthday celebration there in 2023, where I was grateful for the warm hospitality of gallery owner and photographer Steven Taylor. Whether you’re looking for an event venue or a space to experience incredible live art, you must visit Ubuntu Art Gallery. I highly recommend it to anyone who values culture, creativity, and community!
