Support Threads of Blackness

Led by the calling of my Ikigai, Threads of Blackness: A Cultural Exploration in Japan is a study of kinship between Black American and Japanese cultures. I will spend the summer listening, photographing, and absorbing stories where those worlds meet in craft, language, and daily ritual. My creative focus is to learn washi papermaking with Awagami artisans, practice hand bookbinding, and explore fabric printing as a way to carry images into tangible form. The scope of this fieldwork will span several regions of Japan, followed by public programs in Philadelphia in the fall, so the exchange returns home through an exhibition and workshops.

If you feel called to support this work, you can make a contribution and help me steward the travel, materials, and community events.

Though we do accept donations, we are not a 501c3 Non-profit, so donations are not tax deductible and are considered "Gifts" to the gallery.
